Curtains are the most used option to protect our home from the sun’s rays, from clarity in some cases and even to give us greater privacy. Fashions change a lot regarding curtains. Currently, simple and light designs are popular, but there is something that has not changed: the curtains have to have a good fall to fit well. And to achieve this, there are some tricks that do not fail and that must be taken into account from the initial moment in which we buy the fabric to make it.

 

Some curtain fabrics have no body, that is, they are too light and not heavy. This causes any breeze to pick them up and shake them and the waves do not form correctly. For this reason, the fabric must be chosen not only based on the color or pattern, but also taking care that it is a quality fabric that offers the best drape.

 

Buy enough fabric so that the waves can form well since it will be of little use if it has a body if there are not enough meters. The minimum is one and a half measures corresponding to the space that the curtain will occupy. The maximum recommended is two and a half measures.

 

The curtain should weigh especially in the lower part so that it pulls the rest of the fabric and correctly forms the waves. To achieve this, every seamstress has her tricks. One of the most common is to place a cord with lead / zinc at the bottom of the curtain. This type of cord is heavy enough to keep the curtain down and in place even if some air blows through it.

 

Another trick, when you don’t want to lace up, is to triple them. In addition, this type of hem makes the bottom edge more invisible. In addition, the bottom hem can be very wide, up to twenty centimeters or a little more if the pattern and design of the fabric allows it. This makes the fabric heavy enough to act as a counterweight and hold everything in place.
